Swearing in of witnesses
English reporters are not Notaries.  A ‘Notary Public’ is a licence held by a lawyer in the UK.  However, our reporters can swear witnesses provided all attorneys present agree and stipulate, on the record, that he or she can administer the oath.

It is also quite common for a US judge to provide a stipulation as ‘Exhibit 1’ to a deposition empowering a UK reporter temporarily to provide the oath in the absence of a US (Notary Licensed) reporter.

Interpreters
Should you require the services of an interpreter, we can arrange this for you (for an agreed fee), or you can follow the links to Interpreters on the Links page.  You can of course provide your own interpreter.

Video formats
Video formats in the UK do not play on US equipment.  The UK format (PAL) has to be converted to the American (NTSC) format unless Mpeg files are produced.

Spelling
It is usual for UK reporters to use classic English (and not American English) spellings for UK or interpreted witnesses’ depositions.  If the witness is American, then American English spellings will be used.

Email transcripts
These are normally provided in ASCII format (.v1 or .txt) for easy installation into litigation support packages.  They can be provided in Word® or WordPerfect® formats on request.
